Generally images taken from digital cameras are of big sizes. Many times, we require only small sized files for our task . In that case, we have no other option than to reduce the size or compress them. So, let’s learn step by step the process :
Step 1 :
Open the actual image with GIMP.
Step2 :
If you are using GIMP 2.8, the image will be saved in .xcf format ( by default). So to save in other format, go to File > Export.
Step3 :
Change the file name with ” .jpg ” or ” .jpeg ” extension.
Step 4 :
A new window will open with label ” Export Image as JPEG” . Select the ” Show preview in image window” and then move the slider to adjust the image quality along with file size. Lower the quality value, higher the compressed image you get. But be careful, too much compression reduces the image quality.
Step5 :
After you have adjusted the image quality, look at the preview. If the image still looks better to you then click on ” Export” button to save it. That’s it ….!!!
